rental studio and apartment at Lake Street StudosAlthough LSS does not offer a formal “artist in residency” program, we do offer studio (and apartment) space rentals at rates that are quite competitive with many formal residency programs located throughout North America. So, whether you wish to rent studio space by the week or by the month, LSS invites you to come to use the facilities; and so to help us achieve our goal of promoting the active making of art both on site and throughout the region.

LSS also offers studio rental space during the “off” season (September – June) at reduced rates for artists who have developed a stable patron base in the region, or who wish to enjoy the region during the quieter times of the year; LSS is a great place to be throughout the year.   

Note that LSS does not actively promote the art of artists who rent space at LSS; many artists come to LSS solely to focus on their art and to allow the magic of the Leelanau county light and scenery to work their magic. LSS does, however, offer frontage onto the commercial district and the opportunity to place signage on a major thoroughfare; all of our studio spaces are “commercially” zoned and so the direct sale of art from these spaces is acceptable as well as encouraged. LSS also encourages artists, if they desire, to teach classes out of their studio space
